About us
We created Kitabkhana in response to the rise of the online world. Bookshops are places where minds are opened and world's become large. A place where one can enter a book and explore world's never seen, not imagined. A place where mindsets change, where one can dream of changing the world.
A place where one can read books in many languages. Too often, in the current day, there is a sense in bookstores that literature is only in English. We want to be a place where in addition to English, we have books in Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Sanskrit, Urdu and more.
A place to meet friends. A place to make new friends and share a love for reading. A place where our children discover a love for books.
A place where one can come in and browse. A place where time stops. In the words of the poet Gulzar, where 'दिल ढूँढता है फिर वही फुर्सत के रात दिन '
KitabKhana is a passion store, a dream that has been realized after a lot of hard work and travels, of its owners Mrs Amrita Somaiya and Mr Samir Somaiya. Their love for books and exposure to different places through instrumental in creating, what is now being often referred to as ‘The most beautiful bookshop in Mumbai’.
They strongly believe that even in today’s digitised world of iPads and cyber world, books will remain the best chronicler of times and that the generation of today and tomorrow will continue to read books and write them as well. KitabKhana is here to merely provide this opportunity. Amrita and Samir are committed to creating an environment for you that’ll enrich your reading experience.
