Broke professor and scientist Galileo Galilei replicates an existing invention, a telescope, offers it to the Republic as his own device, and is soon caught for fraud. He then uses the telescope to observe phenomena in space which coincide with Copernicus' theories that the Earth revolves around the sun and vice-versa.
Galileo's revolutionary discoveries are shunned by the ignorant society around him. He is silenced by the merciless Inquisition's violent threats and reluctantly withdraws his brilliant propositions, publicly, as they go against the teachings of the Church. His daughter's engagement is broken off as well, due to his findings being too controversial in society.
The dedicated and passionate astronomer, now under house arrest, begins to sneak his work out of the country where it can truly be appreciated and shared with the world that is in desperate need of his findings.
